Finishing Touches
Embarking on a kitchen renovation is an exciting journey filled with endless possibilities. It is the finishing touches that truly bring a kitchen renovation to life. These small yet impactful details add character, functionality, and style, transforming your space from ordinary to extraordinary.
Cabinet Hardware:
When it comes to finishing touches, cabinet hardware is a small but powerful detail that can make a big difference in the overall aesthetic of your kitchen. Consider swapping out old or outdated handles and knobs with new ones that complement your design style. Sleek and modern stainless steel handles can give your kitchen a contemporary look, while antique brass or bronze knobs can add a touch of vintage charm. Don't be afraid to mix and match hardware styles to create a unique and personalized look. The right cabinet hardware can elevate the visual appeal of your kitchen while providing a functional and ergonomic experience.
We decided to indulge ourselves and splurge on nice cabinet knobs and pulls from Rejuvenation. We’re huge fans of their elevated, timeless designs. These are the Canfield Cabinet Knob and Canfield Drawer Pull that come in a hexagonal shape giving off that mid-century modern vibe.
Lighting Fixtures:
Proper lighting is essential in any kitchen, and the right fixtures can serve as beautiful focal points while providing ample illumination. Pendant lights above the kitchen island or dining area can add a touch of elegance and create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Consider the scale and style of your space when choosing lighting fixtures. If you have high ceilings, oversized chandeliers can make a striking statement. Experiment with different lighting options to find the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics.
We changed both the pendant light fixtures above the bar top and the chandelier over our dining table. We loved the fixtures from West Elm for this renovation. We kept the pendant lights simple and clean with the Sculptural Globe Pendant and went added a bit more flair with the Mobile Chandelier.
Backsplash:
A backsplash not only protects your kitchen walls from splatters and spills but also adds a decorative element that can tie the whole room together. Whether you opt for classic subway tiles, mosaic patterns, or eye-catching designs, the backsplash presents an opportunity to showcase your personal style. Choose a material that complements your countertops and cabinets while adding visual interest to the space. Consider glass tiles for a sleek and modern look, natural stone for a rustic feel, or metallic tiles for a touch of glamour. The backsplash can serve as a focal point or a subtle backdrop, depending on your design goals. Don't be afraid to experiment with different colors, textures, and patterns to create a backsplash that reflects your unique taste.
Other considerations:
Window Treatments: Window treatments are often overlooked in kitchen renovations, but they can have a significant impact on the overall look and feel of the space. Consider installing stylish blinds, shades, or curtains that complement your design scheme and provide the desired level of privacy and light control. Roman shades or woven blinds can add texture and warmth to the room, while sheer curtains can create a soft and airy ambiance. If you have a beautiful view, consider leaving your windows bare to let nature be the focal point. Whatever option you choose, make sure it harmonizes with the rest of the kitchen and contributes to the overall aesthetic.
Open Shelving: Open shelving has become increasingly popular in kitchen design, as it offers both functionality and an opportunity to display your favorite dishware and accessories. Installing open shelves instead of upper cabinets can create an open and spacious feel in the kitchen while showcasing your style and personality. Consider using floating shelves made from wood, metal, or glass to add a modern touch.
